Vacation, had to get away...

We had a much-needed vacation to Long Beach. I know what you're thinking, the beach in November? Are you insane? Despite your misgivings it was none the less awesome...
During the all-too brief respites between angry Pacific storm fronts, we strolled the beach...
The peninsula has a great beachfront trail system...
Occasionally the weather was spectacular...
I discovered that beach art comes in many forms...
I don't really know why we're so drawn to the beach, we just are, we're not going to try and fight it...
It really is the World's longest beach, honestly, the Chamber of Commerce swears it is...
These seagull tracks are fresh...
A flock of Sandpiper followed us up the beach...
Feathered sentinels we should have heeded, they foreshadowed an intense squall that soaked us through...
Long Beach was amazing but now on to Depoe Bay...
High tide at Depoe Bay...
What can you say, but wow...
The room with one hell of a view...
The Oregon coast is actually more spectacular when the weather sucks...
A little, little park in Depoe Bay you'll miss if you're driving...
The Devil's Punch Bowl...
Whatchoo lookin at?
Intrepid November surfers on Beverly beach...
Something tells me they're not as cute and cuddly as they appear...
Great trip, it's too bad we have to return to that other, shall we say, less tranquil reality...

If You're Not Angry, You're Not Paying Attention...

If you can watch this and not be really, really pissed off, then you need to reduce your dosage...

A Friendly Message to the So-called 53%...

Fact: Everyone in this country pays taxes, the people who don't make enough to pay federal income tax still pay payroll taxes, property taxes (even if they rent), sales taxes, user fees, and tolls.

Fact: People with low incomes actually pay a much higher percentage of their total income in taxes. So get off your high horse and stop acting like a sociopathic douche, paying federal income taxes doesn't make you superior to the Americans who don't, but it does seem to make some of you self-righteous dicks...

Fact: Your silly little *pull yourself up by your own boot straps* rugged individual mentality doesn't bear any resemblance to reality. Your struggle to the top didn't happen in a fucking vacuum. Your ability to get anywhere in our society is a direct result of the labors and sacrifices of every American who came before you, most likely your own parents...

Fact: In striking similarity to conservative opinion regarding anthropogenic climate change, most of what conservatives state as fact about economic matters is also complete bullshit...

Fact: As demonstrated by the above chart, you can stop blaming Obama for our current clusterfuck, because it was actually caused by the idiot you voted for - twice!

Finally that friendly message to the people who call themselves the 53 percent. It's great that you make enough money to pay federal income taxes, don't fall over patting yourself on the back. However you're overlooking the fact that unless you were born into wealth it takes multiple jobs, or acquiring nearly insurmountable levels of debt, or both, just to get to where you are. Yet you're somehow deluded enough to believe that you're living the American dream...

That's the fact Jack, oh and by the way, have you ever heard about a thing called Stockholm syndrome? Look it up, and while you're at it stop blaming the fucking victims...

I am the Ninety-Nine Percent...

No seriously, cousins I have never met are the rich ones. I can only get a free pass to the bemusement park in my brain that manifests itself here.

I am a lab technician, I like what I do even though the pay is so-so. I haven't had a raise in over five years, even though I get good performance reviews and the company has turned around. How do you ask for a raise when you're grateful just to have a job?

My wife and I are struggling mightily to put our kids through college. We struggle now so they're not tens of thousands of dollars in debt when they finish. That is a form of indentured servitude. The kids both work full-time because we couldn't come even close to paying for everything without their help.

We are just trying to give our kids the same thing our parents managed to easily accomplish with only one household income. Sadly we need four incomes to accomplish the same thing. My how times have changed...

We are the ninety-nine percent. I'm guessing that you are too...
