I actually heard one tool of the coal industry claim that mountain top mining brought economic opportunity to the people of West Virginia, Virginia, Kentucky and Tennessee because the mine tailings filled river valleys and made more flat open space to build on...you have got to be fucking kidding! Of course he neglected to mention any of the myriad environmental impacts of this highly destructive method.
